AC VS DC FAN MOTORS, WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW?
What does AC & DC mean and how does it effect you when choosing a ceiling fan, our quick guide will help you make the decision a breeze!
It’s all about power – AC stands for Alternating Current in which the positive & negative sides are constantly switching, this is the type of electricity that comes straight from the power point. DC is Direct Current, in which the positive and negative sides remain constant, this type of power is usually associated with batteries, solar cells etc.
What is the difference?
AC Fans
Lower purchase cost – AC fans use power direct from the outlet and are simpler than DC fans, making them more affordable than DC fans upfront
Energy efficiency – AC fans are not as efficient as DC fans but still have a low running cost especially compared to other cooling methods , most consume less than 100 watts on the high setting.
More Control Options – Most AC fans come with wall control (or pull cord) as standard with optional remote control kits available.
DC Fans
Energy efficiency – Although DC fans are more expensive to purchase, DC fans require much less power to run. Savings of up to 70% can be expected compared to AC fan performance. This efficiency means DC fans can save you money in the long term.
Quiet operation – DC fans feature advanced motor design resulting in quieter operation, an important point to note for installation in bedrooms.
More features – DC fans offer greater range of features including; more speeds, easy summer/winter mode selection and Smart Home options. DC fans being newer are also available in designs that feature modern clean lines to fit with modern design trends.
